Indigenous Australians have relied on ‘kindal kindal’
[macadamias] as a source of food for thousands of years.
In 1857 it received the name “Macadamia” by botanist
Baron Von Mueller who named it in honour of his friend
Dr MacAdam.
In the late 1800’s our native trees were exported to
Hawaii to create shelter belts. Today Hawaii is third to
Australia as the largest producer of the macadamia.
The native macadamia trees thrive in the rich soil and
high annual rainfall areas of Northern New South Wales
and South Eastern Queensland.
